Case #1 for the course "ANTICOAGULANT THERAPY"
A 68-year-old man with ischemic cardiomyopathy, left ventricular dysfunction, and atrial fibrillation (CHADS₂ = 3), with chronic renal failure (eGFR 42 mL/min), is receiving dabigatran 150 mg twice daily. He was recently diagnosed with colon cancer. Laparoscopic colectomy with neuroaxial anesthesia is planned (high risk of bleeding).
